Embracing Change: Lessons from the Past, Vision for the Future

2024 marks a pivotal moment in my journey—one that prompts reflection on the lessons learned and a renewed focus on the path ahead. Over the past several years, I’ve sought divine guidance, questioning my purpose, and contemplating the end game. In the last 24 months, the collapse of a thriving business challenged my aspirations of financial success.

Here’s what 28 years of experience have taught me:

1. Priority on Relationships: God, family, and my wife and kids are the cornerstone of my priorities. No vision or business endeavor should compromise these essential connections.
2. Strength in Unity: Business is undeniably tough, but navigating it alone is even more challenging. Building a cohesive team, individuals who share the vision, is essential for enduring success.
3. Money as a Tool, Not the Focus: Money is a powerful tool but should never be the sole focus. The heart of any thriving venture is a genuine commitment to people, not just financial gains.
4. Beyond the Millionaire Dream: The pursuit of becoming a millionaire is a societal ideal, but it doesn’t guarantee lifelong security. The pandemic illustrated this reality. While once enjoying a substantial net worth, external factors led to a significant financial setback.
5. Discernment in Ventures: Not every business idea, even if seemingly good, should be pursued. Discernment is crucial, as seen in the cautionary tale of a hotshot trucking venture, laden with regulations, competition, and overhead.
6. Knowing When to Pivot: Recognizing when to pivot or abandon an endeavor is a key entrepreneurial skill. Despite initial optimism, the trucking venture proved unsustainable, emphasizing the importance of adaptability.
7. Resilience Amid Failure: Failure is inevitable, but it’s the ability to rise, seek guidance, and embrace divine direction that defines resilience. Failures, when surrendered to a higher purpose, become stepping stones to growth.
8. Spiritual and Mental Inventory: Taking inventory of spiritual, mental, and resource assets is imperative. Recognizing the abundance of what’s already present equips us to move forward with purpose and gratitude.
9. Focus on the Future: The past serves as a guide, but the future beckons. Embracing change, leaving excuses behind, and utilizing the resources at hand set the stage for a transformative journey ahead.
